CHILDREN HAVE complained about homework since time immemorial.
Many would rather be out playing with their friends or enjoying
themselves on their latest games console. But parents and educators
are divided on the subject. Those in favour of setting homework
for primary school children say it prepares them for the discipline
needed in their secondary school education. Those opposed say
primary school children are far too young for homework and that
assigning it does more harm than good.

The press is full of stories of
children under 7 having stress ill-nesses. Let them be children.
Life isn’t easy. I really don’t get why
people want stress-free schooling.
Get kids ready for life.
My 6- and 7-year-olds have far too
much homework, considering they
have been at school learning all day.
And it infuriates me when they give
them homework over the holidays.
I usually screw it up and throw it in
I agree with some reading and a
little maths and spelling, as they’re
essential subjects. What I definitely
don’t agree with is the amount of
homework my daughter used to get
in primary school to be done over
the school holidays.
It does more harm than good. I
have given up with the homework
fight. I have three kids who are all
dyslexic, and school is exhausting
for them. Home time is downtime
in my book.
Children are pushed too hard and
much too early now. Let them be
children. It’s not like they’ll get a
second chance at it.
